ANATOMY

The breast is composed of:

1. Mammary gland
2. Mammary ducts, transporting milk and gathering in the nipple
3. Fat (approximately 80% of the total breast volume) and connective tissue
4. Skin

The glandular lobules are surrounded by fat and connective tissue; the glandular tissue is mostly gathered in the central and lateral portions of the breast. In young woman, the total volume of the breast is made of glandular tissue; as time goes by the fat component becomes prevalent.

The mammary gland is placed above the pectoral major, pectoral minor, serratus, rectum muscle. The pectorals major muscle is used to hide and protect the implants.
